Review of the hammock from NaturFun
The hammock from NatureFun* makes a solid impression at first sight. The quality is adequate for the price. All supporting seams are in triple design. The two color-coded side stripes are also triple stitched to the main stripe. Only the hem is single stitched. To me, the white thread contrasts strongly with the muted colors of the hammock. But of course, that’s a matter of taste. The ends of the thread peek out everywhere. At the ends, long threads stick out from the nylon fabric. An indication that inside the eyelet the fabric is not hemmed. This is where savings were made.
Weaknesses due to the colored stripes
If the hammock is used for a longer period of time, the two colored side stripes are a problem. These six additional seams can tire and tear over time. The solid color models seem to be made of only one strip of fabric. Anyone looking to purchase this hammock should buy one of the solid color models.
Good comfort of NatureFun hammock
The camping hammock is generously designed for one person. As a result, it feels very comfortable. When it comes to hammocks, the basic rule is: the bigger, the more comfortable!
This hammock can also be used as a 2-person hammock. The outdoor hammock can support up to 300kg. This clearly makes it a 2-person hammock. I haven’t tried it out with two persons yet, but the specs give that away. If you want to use it for two, you should definitely not buy a smaller hammock. Otherwise it will be uncomfortably tight.
Simple and clear in the attachment
The webbing sling and carabiners at the ends also make it very quick to set up. Nothing can get tangled in the pack by long cords, because the NatureFun is a Gathered-End hammock. This is typical for travel hammocks. The stuff sack is sewn tightly to the hammock. So it can’t get lost and there is a place in the hammock to keep things within easy reach.
NatureFun steel carabiners have been replaced by aluminum carabiners
I really appreciate it when companies respond to customer feedback. Currently, NatureFun includes lightweight aluminum wire gate carabiners with their outdoor hammocks. Previously, there were only heavy steel carabiners. Not for people who value lightweight equipment. Definitely not suitable for UltraLight hammock camping. NaturFun has now reacted to this criticism and includes now treestraps with light aluminium carabiners!
Carabiners incorrectly hooked into the hammock
From the factory, the carabiners were incorrectly hooked into the eyelets of the NatureFun hammock. Through the attachment eyelet of the hammock is a tape loop slid. The carabiner was attached to it so that this tightens under load like a noose. Thus, however, both sides of the hammock are loaded differently.
incorrectly threaded: the carabiners must be passed through both ends of the loop
The slings of the hammock must be properly hooked into the carabiners
The slings of the NaturFun hammock must be properly hooked into the carabiners. This uneven loading can cause premature damage to the hammock. It is better to hook both ends of the webbing sling into the carabiner. On the product photos from the manufacturer, are unfortunately both version.
Attachment for the NatureFun with tree straps
Previously, there were only simple nylon straps for fastening the hammock. Now, however, NaturFun has made a big step forward and supplies two tree straps. These have sewn-on loops for easy length adjustment. The tree straps are much better for the tree bark and hold the hammock securely to the tree without slipping. Here I have described the advantages of tree straps.
Buying recommendation for the hammock?
The hammock from NatureFun* is light and comfortable in itself. A good hammock for warm days. It is quickly assembled thanks to carabiners and nothing can knot any long cords. It is offered in many different color combinations. With a load capacity of 300kg, it can also be used as a 2-person hammock. Not bad for this price range.
Unfortunately, the Naturefun hammock is no longer available in the USA. Instead, the Double Owl hammock from Wise Owl is identical in construction.
Suspension set has been improved by NaturFun
NatureFun has now a suspension set included. With the tree straps (similar to those of Wise Owl), they are now equipped with reasonable accessories for attachment to trees. I really like it when companies respond to customer criticism. That seems to be the case with NaturFun.
Otherwise, the NaturFun hammock is a cheap entry into the world of outdoor hammocks. However, I would not take it along for hammock camping, as it is not suitable for an overnight stay.
For that, it lacks a holder for a sleeping pad. A mosquito net is also missing. Without additional protection, you are at the mercy of the beasts unfortunately without protection. This should also be purchased for longer sleep. But it is better to go for a professional hammock like the DD Frontline or the Amazonas Traveller Thermo.
